PETER WELLS FREE
Peter Wells, the 28 year old man jailed for 2 ½ years for having had sex with two 18 year old men (see PN 1998), has recently been released from prison. During his sentence he received constant assaults and harassment from other prisoners and prison officers, including having boiling water thrown over him, being kicked on the head and body, and being pushed down a flight of stairs. His appeal was rejected despite evidence given by a prison psychiatrist about his mental state, and recommending his early release.
Peter suffered so much while in prison that he attempted to commit suicide twice, and spent the latter part of his term in a cell in the prison hospital, in solitary confinement, save for half an hour’s exercise a day.
