Man Found Shot Dead

A man was found dead with shotgun wounds at his home in Glossop Road, South Croydon, on Wednesday evening.

Mr Peter Vernon Wells, aged 31, an unmarried man, was found by his flatmate when he returned from work.

A double barrelled 12 bore shotgun lay in a passageway beside the house – which is divided off into flats – and Mr Wells’s body was across the entrance to the living room. The television and lights were on.

A post mortem was carried out at Croydon by Professor Taffy Cameron. The cause of death was given as two shotgun wounds in the chest. The time was 6pm – nearly two hours before the discovery of the body.

Police yesterday (Thursday) were interviewing a man.
